Review of Azumi (2003) by Peter S — 05 Aug 2007
On the surface its one of the best choreographed and innovatingly filmed sword films Ive seen.
One of its themes that I loved is that Azumi isnt driven on by a blood lust, if anything she can see the pointlessness of her actions and her enemies deaths but she is driven on by her dedication to her comrades, damned by her honour to take on an army and impossible odds of survival. Despite its selection of ludicrous, yet enjoyable, enemies that rise up against Azumi and her brothers the film still holds its integrity.
If you want more from your action movie than a hollywood "superstar" and a witty putdown after every kill then this could be the one for you!
