Review of Angel-A (2005) by Prathaban M — 04 Dec 2007
This movie is like a modern adaptation of the Frank Capra classic "It's a Wonderful Life" - not exactly - kind of. Never seen such a stylish and comical movie that also delivers a deep moral lesson. This movie was very moving to me because I have come across characters like Andre in my life among the unfortunate cross sections of the society - this movie just showed me how those people must feel - a lesson learnt for me :).
The Luc Besson guy definitely knows his art. The black and white visuals were stunning - for unexplicable reasons the monochrome picture has a great impact on the movie - maybe because it doesn't capture the imperfections of a city like Paris as well as a color film does. The acting of the two leads was spot on. And the soundtrack was simply magical.
If you think the movie is over, just sit and watch the first half of the end credits. The music and the text effects will blow you away.
What bad can you say of a movie where even the end credits is something special.
